Okay, so I am a little behind on reading. But since I can't do an in depth post, I thought I would see about some passage discussing. As I am reading this book, I am delighted with the number of paragraphs and sentences that jump out and make me go, "Freaking Wow! This fella knows how to write!"
Here is one that really caught my attention and made me think:
"Our species is the only creative species, and it has only one creative instrument, the individual mind and spirit of a man. Nothing was ever created by two men. There are no good collaborations, whether in music, in art, in poetry, in mathematics, in philosophy. Once the miracle of creation has taken place, the group can build and extend it, but the group never invents anything. The preciousness lies in the lonely mind of a man.
And now the forces marshaled around the concept of the group have declared a war of extermination on that preciousness, the mind of man. By disparagement, by starvation, by repressions, forced direction, and the stunning hammerblows of conditioning, the free, roving, mind is being pursued, roped, blunted, drugged. It is a sad suicidal course our species seems to have taken."
Do you all agree or disagree?
I have to agree. A single mind creates the fetus of the genius and helps it evolve, but later on there are others who can come together to help the life of the creation.
ReplyDeleteA composer creates the piece of music in his mind, makes it his baby, and then comes the orchestra to help give it life. The maestros of yesterday created intense music that could not be conformed to, so their works are either banned or destroyed by those who don't feel that they fall into what they want.
At least that's one way I look at it. It's like our banned book list, which is the stupidest thing ever. People put books on there because it doesn't conform to what they believe. To Kill A Mockingbird is on there because parents don't want their children to read about things that really happened. It's a blockade in our evolation as a society, as a people.
So....yeah. I'd say I have to agree.
